Participating in Liturgy is the way that we, as a community, celebrate our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Mass, or Liturgy, is our central act of worship. What follows is a brief description of the different ministries that together form this celebration.
The Presider (Celebrant)
Co-celebrates with the congregation, and leads them in worship.
Servers are men and women of all ages, including families, who witness to their faith by serving the Presider at the liturgies. This is a wonderful ministry and it is open to all in the parish. It is also a great way for teens to witness to their faith.
These ministers assist the Presider in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Communion during the liturgies of the parish. They also can serve the shut inns of our parish by bringing communion to them on a regular basis. The ministry is open to all mature Catholics.
Arts and Environment
This ministry is open to all who have a creative spirit, who sew, make flower and other types of arrangements, and who would like to be involved in preparing our worship and gathering space for liturgy.
A Lector proclaims the Word of God during liturgy. This ministry is open to men and women who are living a faith life which enables them to proclaim the Word with reverence and conviction.
The members of this committee plan and oversee all of the liturgical functions at the parish. It is made up of any parish member who would like to help develop the Sunday liturgies as well as the special liturgies that take place during the year.
Ushers/ Welcoming Committee
Greeting and welcoming people when they arrive for the liturgy helps to build community. These ministers convey to all, and especially to our visitors, the warmth and the caring of our parish family. They make certain people find a place to sit, and know where the facilities are located. They take up the collection and invite some of the people present to bring forth the gifts at the Offertory. This ministry is open to all adults and teens, male and female.
At St. Joseph's there are many opportunities for people to be involved in the music of liturgy. Our choir is open to people of any age and to all who would like to use their vocal or instrumental talents in the celebration of Liturgy.
