Who We Are
We are a family based community seeking a meaningful relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and that we are called to love and forgive one another. We are challenged to grow in an understanding of what it means to say that I am a Christian. We open ourselves to the call of the gospel to be involved in bringing the good news and the message of Jesus to our world. We are a spiritual presence in the Loch Lomond Community, and a sign of hope for all who have lost their way. We are a people on a journey of faith that is lived out in our daily lives at home, on the way and at work. We believe that we have been sent to make the world a better place and we work each day to be a sign of God's love and peace in our world. We are open to change and we invite others to come and see how the message of the gospel can touch their lives.
The community of Saint Joseph's encompasses a very large area. Part of the parish is in the East End of the City of Saint John, and the major part is in the county. The parish takes in all of First, Second and Third Lake, Otter Lake, Baxter's Corner, Rowley, Fairvale, St Martins, Duck Pond, Gardener Creek, Black River, Taylor lake, Haines lake, Churchland Road, parts of French Village and everything in between. The Saint John Municipal Airport is within the parish as are the Eastern Lakes that supply our city with water. The area is growing at an incredible rate with land prices going up every year. There is one principle School in the area, Loch Lomond Elementary, three catholic churchs, St. Patricks in Black River, St Williams in St Martins and St. Joseph's close to the Airport on the Loch Lomond Road. Due to the Lakes, this is a residential area with the only two major industries being gravel and pulp. It is a wonderful place to live, and little by little people are discovering the beauty of this place, so close to the city but so far removed from the noises and the hustle and bustle of city living. Most people who build out here realize in short order that they have found paradise.
Fundamentally our mission is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of this community. This is our mission and we endeavor to bring this about through, the sacramental life of the church, home visitation, social services, pre-school and after school programs, special days for mom's and tots, festivals, concerts, educational programs, liturgies, political and social events. We believe our mission calls us to be involved in every aspect of the communities life and so we have representatives in everything that takes place in this area. We cannot influence this part of the world with the mission and the message of Christ if we are not in involved in his works. We strive to be a force for good in the area and to work at bringing about a unified community of people with different beliefs and different customs but who all want a place of peace and harmony. Together we believe that we can bring this about and enrich the area with the Good news that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
